laundry lines
April 21st, 2011
You may remember the big Clothesline Debate of 2009, when all kinds of neuroses were on full display–even as many people fought to bring those “intimates” indoors. I had a landlord who clothespinned her husband’s underwear, tee shirts, and button-downs to the line in the backyard, and I marveled at her fastidiousness (I also marveled that the clothes remained clean while drying). Even back in 2008, people had a lot to say about clotheslines.
I’m not sure anyone could convince me that clotheslines are an eyesore.

In fact, the felt (and wood) penants made popular by crafters and bloggers over the last several years bear a striking resemblance to all that is beautiful about clotheslines.
