We’ve posted about our interest in Laurie Rubin’s work, elsewhere on this blog, but now we all have an opportunity to see recent work, up close and personal.
I’m often asked “what inspires you”? That’s a hard one because the list is endless. It could be an interesting pattern or motif, a great movie, or a museum show that has absolutely nothing to do with furniture. The experiences spark images of lifestyle and home and I am inspired to create something appropriate for them. I sketch on airplanes, on the beach, at my desk, wherever and whenever I want to record an idea. It’s both an intuitive and conscious process——I turn an abstraction (a feeling or experience) into a furniture sketch and then make a studied drawing for production.
