INSPIRATION: ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY

Some of us daydream daily about going back to school, while others have nightmares about the same notion. One burgeoning field that designers often overlook is environmental psychology. City University of New York has an extremely innovative program. Look at some of the subjects current PhD students are tackling:

My interests are in Housing, Homelessness, and Poverty. My current research is: A Perspective of People with HIV/AIDS in Single Room Occupancies on Housing and Access to Services. I’m particularly interested in the environments effect on how people view themselves.

 I am researching intentional communities, more specifically ecovillages, looking at the intersection of community and environmental concern. Home modifications for children with mobility impairments, and issues of accessibility. Also, gardens and symbolism, work environment and public space.

 …loft living and conversion, urban dis-industrialization, waterfront development, historic preservation, GIS (geographic information systems), and ethnographic documentary…
